Over-acidity is very common today and can become a dangerous condition that weakens all body systems. This condition forces the body to borrow alkaline minerals, including calcium, sodium, potassium, and magnesium from vital organs, muscles, and bones to neutralize acid and remove it from the body. Over-acidity can go undetected for years and cause severe damage. Like acid eating into marble, acidosis erodes and eats into cell wall membranes of the heart, arteries and veins. Acidosis is the first step towards premature aging and accelerated oxidative stress.
The acid–alkaline balance is an important factor in the health and functioning of the body. Optimal health depends on the body's ability to maintain a slightly alkaline state. Unfortunately, most of what we eat is acidic in nature and, therefore, changes the balance toward acidity called METABOLIC ACIDOSIS.
What causes the body to be acidic? Metabolic acidosis is more common in our society primarily due to the Standard American Diet (Atkins diet is even worse…read on). This diet is too high in acid-producing foods like meat and fish, white flour, sugar, alcohol, most dairy products, coffee and soft drinks, processed and refined vegetable oils, white or processed vinegar; and too low in alkaline-producing foods like fresh vegetables. Infections, smoking, stress, and a sedentary life style tend to make the body more acidic.
Even mild acidosis can cause many problems in the body, such as:
• Poor oxygen utilization, meaning the body slowly suffocates.
• Acceleration of free radical damage, possibly contributing to cancerous mutations.
• Premature aging.
• Cardiovascular damage, including the constriction of blood vessels and the reduction of oxygen in the tissues and hypertension.
• Weight gain, obesity, and diabetes.
• Kidney and urinal bladder stones.
• Slow recovery from illness and injury.
• Immune deficiency.
• Osteoporosis: weak, brittle bones, hip fractures, and bone spurs.
• Joint pain, aching muscles, and lactic acid build up.
• Low energy, depression, and chronic fatigue.
• Chronic liver and kidney diseases, adrenal gland insufficiency, diabetic ketoacidosis, and severe diarrhea.
