Hayfever

Every year it’s the same thing, a lot of people seek help for itchy eyes and runny noses with symptoms varying in degree from sneezing to allergic asthma.

There are two types of allergic rhinitis: seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and perennial allergic rhinitis, which occurs year-round. Allergens (substances that cause allergic reactions) are usually inhaled in the body. Hay fever is caused by outdoor allergens and perennial allergic rhinitis by indoor allergens. Symptoms of allergic rhinitis resemble a cold, except that they occur only at particular times: during certain seasons or weather patterns (hay fever), and around certain animals or small household pests (perennial allergic rhinitis). Approximately 20 percent of North Americans are affected by allergic rhinitis. Many people who have allergic rhinitis also have asthma.

If you are here you may be taking some sort of western medication i.e. antihistamine, nasal decongestant spray or cortisone based inhalers. Although these drugs alleviate your symptoms, you realize that the drugs do not address the root of the problem and may cause side effects. If you need help, you can try our natural holistic approach for hay fever or allergic rhinitis.

We use a combination of acupuncture, cupping, point massage, herbal inhalation, herbal balsamic nasal application, herbs and supplements to open nasal passages, decrease the sensitivity to allergen, and reduce inflammation. Different modalities are used in combinations to individualize the treatments.

Acupuncture works by regulating the flow of Qi (life force) through 14 major meridians in the body. Immune weakness is typically due to deficient Qi of the lungs, kidney and spleen meridians and/or the congestion of the liver, spleen, intestine or lung meridians. When these meridians are weak or disharmonious, symptoms such as allergies, fatigue, cough, and recurring infections are commonplace. For these issues, acupuncture points are chosen on the lung and spleen meridians to supplement the Qi, thereby strengthening immune function.

The Chinese method of treating allergies is not only to build up the immune system, but to relieve the symptoms, and treat the root cause of the problem.

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can effectively treat the symptoms of seasonal allergies, according to a study published in Allergy (2004; 59:953–60). At the end of the study, allergy severity in people receiving treatment was significantly lower than in those receiving placebo. Nearly 85% of those in the acupuncture group improved while improvement was noted in only 40% of those getting placebo.

In our years of experience, we have seen improvements after 8-10 sessions even in severe acute cases (chronic allergy problems require longer treatments).

We will also teach you “how to do it yourself” by doing point massage and special breathing exercises to release the inflamed, congested, solid mucous discharge out and cleanse your sinuses. You can use it as a first aid or as maintenance. During our acupuncture session you will experience cupping. This procedure diminishes your sensitivity to allergen, decreases the level of your toxicity, improves the activity of your immune system and opens the congested passages.

For inflammation, congestion and allergy we use different kinds of Herbal Medicine such as herbal vapor inhalations, herbal rinses, herbal teas and herbal formulas. Our unique herbal balsamic nasal applicationmakes the “dirty” congested stuff come out, cleanses the nasal discharges, and suppresses the infection.

We support your body’s anti-allergy mechanisms with nutritional supplements that include vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, natural antihistamines, and natural antimicrobial and antifungal remedies.
